Still Knitting!

I know it's been a while posting to this blog, but I am still knitting and being inspired to do other things, inspired by knitting.  Mandy has given me an idea for making shawl and scarf pins.  I have a nice stash of copper to work with and will gather up some silver to create some spiral and knotted pins.  I'm also going to embellish a few with some stones that I'll get to cabbing in September.

I'm having a great time plotting and planning for my fall/winter knitting/crochet projects.  Being able to make unique and OOAK brass, copper and wooden buttons is only creating more possibilities!

Happy New Year Once Again 2011 Here I come!

It's been a long while.  I'm knitting and up to many things, just not at the computer very much for so many reasons, real and imagined.

I'm on a hat roll these days, Gnome Gear is what I've been up to.. "Gnome Gear" is what I'm calling ma hats and the other wee folk wear that I'm creating.  Socks are next, I want to make some fun slipper socks for the kids and maybe to sell if time permits.

Sooo much fun.  Oh and the FBW's that's another project all done.

Dish Cloth

Hey, I finished my four dish cloths! Here's a pic of the last one, I was trying to learn some new stitches and use up the last of the cotton.

Still need to iron out some kinks in my technique... ok a lot but it's worthy of dirty dish water!!!

Slippers

This is the finished slipper, the other one still needs a little more done on the front.

I'm almost done! DS needs a pair of slippers for camp this weekend, so last night I decided to see what I could come up with using the last of my da's yarn (the stuff I use to make his blanket. ) I had almost enough. If I had made the slipper smaller I would have been able to finish. DD is getting another ball at Michale's, using the awesome 50%off coupon on one item.

This is going to be my prototype I have a few ideas for how I'd like to make them. The one thing I have found with crochet is that it is so much easier to be random and its almost like sculpting with yarn if that makes sense. I have no pattern, just following what makes sense as I go along and in the end I can still make something that resembles what I was trying to create. Two thumbs up for the crochet hook! Oh I'm trying to write down what i've done, but i thhink I need to study crochet lingo some more cuz what I have on paper confuses the heck outta me.

This is the sole of the slipper, just for now because I have some ideas for making and felting soles that would be more durable.

Papa's Blanket

Here is picture of the blanket I crochet'd (what is the spelling for having completed something with a crochet hook?) for my Da this Christmas. I asked him how he got such a great shot, he let me know he hauled out his ladder and climbed up to take the shot.

Crochet in the Green

I finished my dad's Christmas gift, the green crochet blanket. I forgot to take a pic, Da! if you're reading will ya take a picture and email it to me?

I'm working on some much needed dish cloths and will sew up some tea towels in the next few weeks. I've committed myself to making blankets for all the kids. I think I'll sew some, knit a few and crochet... to shake things up a little and help avoid boredom.

My first Crochet Blanket!

Ok, it's not knitting.... hence the "ROGUE" in the title.

My plan is to line it with purple paisley cotton backing, and maybe adding a scalloped crochet edging when I'm done. Can't just leave it alone. Now be careful not too look too close at the squares as there are a few first ones that don't actually fit properly.... but like I said "It's My First" and I promised myself I wouldn't get all caught up on perfection.

I'm onto a new one, a massive green wool/acrylic yarn that crochets in minutes..lol

Earthy Birthy Mama Quilt

This project was put together by some very creative and special womyn! The smiles this quilt has inspired is crazy! My four month old babe loves to grab hold of the yellow squares, but also enjoys the different textures of all the other ones.


It's even more special knowing that the quilt is not only for me, but was created to honour my DD Cass. What an adventure we've been through these last years. The quilt is an extension of the thoughts and love that followed us on our way.

I'm sure the EB gals without even realizing it, created a timely piece that had such perk and pick-me-up value beyond imagination. Thank you gals for thinking of us.

BTW you've inspired me to create a crochet quilt. I'll post picks when its done.

It's been a while! I've wanted to post some pictures and projects, but guess what... have to complete them first.

Having said that, I am working on a wee baby sweater and pant set... with booties of course. Once I have done enough to show that I am working hard, I'll toss up a photo. In the mean while, I'm adding some sewing projects to the list.

Knitting with Polar Fleece

I had pictures, but cannot figure out where they have gone, so I'll have to describe what I've done.

With number 15mm wooden needles I casted on 100 or so stitches using the polar fleece yarn I made.  I bought two metres of fabric and cut it into 1cm strips, sewing the strips together to make yarn for knitting.  A little labour intensive, but I think worth the effort.  

My plan is to go through my linen closet this winter and reuse all my old linens and towels to create new blankets and throw rugs.  I imagine flannel will look nice after its washed and the ends fray.  

Anyone else up to something fibre related right now?

Tea and Knitting was a great way to round out my week, it never feels like long enough. I can't wait to get together again.

I need to get a knitting circle going in my neck of the woods. Once a month would be nice. Ahhh life is so much fun, the potential for more never end.

Annie at knitting group...

Annie and I went to a little knitting group at the Stirling Library..We got together with a few others to think about the mittens for children program and share some apple cider and some yummy treats the children's librarian (Jaye) made. This is the first time Jaye has knit.

excuses, excuses...

Lee here....I really feel Zee is my security blanket/cheer leader/teacher....and without her around me, I have a difficult time getting started with something. I want to be an independant knitter..just for the logistics of it...I need to be able to figure things out and help Annie keep going too. Altho I have been knitting for a long time, Ive never really progressed beyond beginner and I would like to! I can't just do it and talk to people, answer children's questions, watch tv etc...knitting takes all my attention and I dont always have a couple of hours to just sit and knit...I know it's a very productive activity but it takes all my mental energy when I have those needles in my hands. I'm not making excuses here...I'm really trying to just think about this and help motivate myself and work through these perceived "barriers". I think I need a sleep over with Zee..

Lee here...ok I didnt make this.....I called dibs on this hat Zee was knitting while we were visiting Kathee...She just whipped it up in no time..I really liked it and asked for it and she gave it to me!!!! Thanks Zeeeee!!

Getting ready for winter

I've been knitting up a storm. DD and I have been watching season one of Pushing Daisies, trying to catch up with season two. As we watch.. oh yeah and Angel too! we knit. Dd is working on her second scarf. I've make a few hats and mitts, on to make more enough to fill the winter basket. I love how excited the kids get when I've made them something, and when they place their orders. Nhat asked me for a red hat with his name in black wool. I finished it tonight, he'll be so glad to have it in the morning. I'm going to make him matching mitts without the monogram though. I hope to make the kids at least two sets each, then on to DH and myself.

After lunch has been nice these days, the kids settle in at the kitchen table with their school work while DD and I sit at the Island with tea, knitting and working on her math. These are the days I'll always cherish.

I'll post pics tomorrow beacuse they didn't turn out that well.

Tea with you, Kit, yer mum Lee would be awesome. Spinning Wheels whirring in sync.. or willy nilly would be a great sound and sight, and I'm sure a leap in our education as far as spinning goes.

I'm missing my Spin Off magazine. I think I'll add it to my reading list once again this fall. I like to information, tutorials, and of course the inspiration to carry on. I'm gearing up to make myself a king size blanket. Not sure exactly how I'm going to go about it, but I have an idea for colours. I would like to incorporate some knitting and quilting into the project, with art being the focus. I was thinking the quilted squares could be random with no repetition and the knitted squares could be more about textures and colour combinations. I would like to use a wool batt, pre-felted if that makes sense with a cotton backing. I think I'll draw what I imagine it will look like to use as a blueprint, guessing this is a two year project at least :)

Spinner at UCV

I guess I am a Rogue Knitter...although I haven't actually started knitting yet...I am posting a photo of the UCV lady who was spinning...it is actually last year's photo (same woman as this year!) I guess we were so busy chatting with her that I didn't take her picture this year. It does give you a peek at her wheel tho'. I love the idea of a tea and spinning party...we could invite my cousin Kit and get some tips and insights from her as well!
